Tension took over Maiduguri on Tuesday evening, as a number of explosions rocked the Borno State capital.
Frontline Reporters reports that it was difficult in getting any official confirmation on the incident.
Unconfirmed sources however, said that some rockets were fired by suspected insurgents into the Maiduguri city, which affected areas like Kaleri, near Gomari Costain, and Adam Kolo areas, resulting in an unspecified number of casualties.
In another interesting development, Troops of the Nigerian Army, have reportedly recaptured New Marte and adjoining communities from the Boko Haram terrorists.
A statement by the Director Public Relations and Information, Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima, says this is coming less than the 48 hours directive earlier given to the troops, to recover the town, by the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Ibrahim Attahiru.
The troops backed by air cover from the Nigerian Air Force , successfully charged through Marte town, destroying several Improvised Explosive Device (IEDs) and landmines laced across their routes and killing scores of Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists to successfully recovered the town.
The Statement added that the troops, are currently in total control of the area.
